at the gates是一支来自瑞典哥德堡的旋律死亡金属乐队，与in flames和dark tranquillity一同被视做此类风格的代表乐队，被称做"哥德堡之声"。 比较而言，三支乐队中，at the gates在保持旋律性的基础上，更为凶狠，残酷一些。
　　at the gates成立于1990年，共有5人。成立当年就在dolores唱片公司旗下录制了第一张ep gardens of grief，引起与dismember, bolt thrower, massacre和immolation这样的乐队一道进行了一次漫长的演出之后，乐队出色的表现引起了peaceville公司的注意，签约至peaceville之后，乐队在1991年推出了首张录音室专辑the red in the sky is ours。这张专辑虽然算不上很出色，但还是给当时的死亡金属界带来了一丝新气息。 [/align][align=center] [/align][align=center][img]http://bbs.muwen.com/fileuploaddir/4B257558094.gif[/img][/align][align=center]
　　93年8月，在与my dying bride共同完成欧洲巡演之后，乐队发行了第二张专辑with fear i kiss the burning darkness。此时乐队更换了一名吉他手，歌曲的旋律性有所加强。
　　94年5月，at the gates发表一张足以令自己在极端金属界占据一席之地的专辑terminal spirit disease。著名的金属音乐杂志kerrang!把他们称做是entombed的继承人。专辑中包括了6首录音室作品和3首现场作品，歌曲中小提琴的运用比起以前来成熟了许多，乐队的整体配合与编曲水平也有了长足的进步。在再次与my dying bride完成欧洲巡演之后，at the gates与seance和ancient rites一道开始名扬欧洲。 [/align][align=center] [/align][align=center][img]http://bbs.muwen.com/fileuploaddir/4B257564235.gif[/img][/align][align=center]
　 95年7月，乐队转签老牌金属厂牌earache，并立即进入录音室完成了自己历史上最好的一张作品slaughter of the soul。专辑完美的将流畅的旋律与凶猛的攻击融合到一起。为了丰富自己的音乐，乐队还加入了键盘。对这张专辑kerrang!杂志有一句绝妙的评价：brutality can be melodic。如果你不相信这句话，那么就请你去听一听这张slaughter of the soul。
　　96年初，slaughter of the soul被瑞典close up杂志评为95年年度最佳专辑，并且获得了瑞典grammy奖最佳hard rock乐队的提名。另外由于单曲blinded by fear的音乐录影带被mtv来回滚动播放的太多，电视台不得不开始限制这首歌的每周播放次数，最终blinded by fear的video获得了。kerrang!杂志96年headbangers ball最佳音乐录影带的提名。
而此时的at the gates仍然在继续着自己的世界巡演。他们在美国完成了非常值得纪念的两次巡演：一次是和morbid angel一起，另一次则是和napalm death。

　　就在at the gates达到自己音乐生涯颠峰的时候，一个遗憾的消息传来，一个似乎每支优秀的乐队都无法摆脱的命运：乐队解散了。核心人物bjorler兄弟感到再继续下去已经无法完成对自身的超越了，于是他们选择了离开；而乐队的剩余成员也认为如果没有bjorler兄弟那就等于没有了at the gates，所以宣布乐队就此解散，自此，slaughter of the soul成为了我们永久的记忆。不过令人稍感欣慰的是乐队成员们并没有停止自己的事业，主唱tomas lindberg成立了hide，一支带有hardcore倾向的乐队；bjorler兄弟和鼓手adrian成立了the haunted，仍然是在earache旗下

感觉哥德堡之声到现在越来越和美国重金属新浪潮相似了

看早年最牛逼的哥德堡之声代表乐队IN FLAMES，现在直接就是新浪潮的巨头了
